But the guy in the hat's a lot more complicated than he looks- we're pretty sure they've got the capacity to view time differently than we do, that much is obvious. And yeah, there's more than one. They show up during historical events just to take notes, and from what the big corporate scientists have decided is that they can see all of time happening at once. They don't have to time travel because they're already there.
The best part of this is they've rarely showed up in the past 5k years. But as of late? They've been spotted almost 30 times.

They're watching something called the Pattern. Probably among other things, they're not sure. But the Pattern's known as a widespread series of unexplainable, sometimes seemingly paranormal events that are occurring faster and more often. That's what's got them interested. Along with the FBI.
So is Star Trek, apparently. I wouldn't rule out PKD just yet.

Well now that you've actually said it, this whole place is going to go up like a jail riot. Which... now that you mention it, i'm also pretty surprised hasn't happened yet. Place is big, but it's not big enough. We should start checking people for shivs.
It's not a joke. If you want me to figure out the statistical likelihood of this many people in a confined space suddenly turning on each other.... it's like a social experiment gone wrong.
And yet a 12 year old with a shiv is a concerning mental image.
And sometimes I've gotta wonder if we're all here because shit back home is just that weird for us. Means we're better at figuring it out than people who think a broken dishwasher is their idea of a bad day.
