Right, you're post-pirates, aren't you? We ran into some locals, they shared some info on our current landscape. Pasiphae is one of the planets out there.

Because you're not as good as encrypting as you think you are and even if i've heard people talking about the pirates, nobody's all that interested in the details.

[ which means there's a reason for it, and why isn't anyone talking about this shit when it's obviously important. ]

You've said it the most recently, anything at ALL about it, and i've got nothing better to do than ask questions since you already started asking them in the first place.

As far as I know, there's nothing special about Pasiphae or any of the other planets. The weird part is how they all kept calling the Tranquility a ghost story.

Hey, what can I say. You were making just as much fun of Tony and I was bored. But that was where I got cut off.

[ This is where he'd be shrugging in real life because whatever bro, he is sorely lacking in the ability to have much of a guilty conscience anymore. And you were entertaining. ]

A ghost story, huh? So we're their version of the Flying Dutchman. That's great. Why couldn't we get the pirates that wanted to pull us back to shore to impress all their friends.

Sounds about right, except for the part where the Flying Dutchman didn't involve government conspiracies. Some of the pirates were making noises about the Evil Empire.

Which makes sense, obviously. No space epic is complete without one of those.

What kind of evil empire? One they had to report back to, or one that makes everyone go find greener planets to live on? Or did nobody get that far with them.

[growling]

Trust me, I tried. For some reason they got slightly less chatty when all the shooting started.

But closer to option two. I think they said this ship was an Evil Empire production. They also really hated Greek names.

Never figured out what it was about shooting someone that made them want to talk less.

Greek? Why would you hate Greek when it's practically your planet's origin story. Definitely adds a new spin to it.

[growling]

I think that might be why they hate it. Evil Empire's super into Greek mythology, slaps Greek names on everything, everyone else turns their noses up at said Greek mythology. I'm pretty sure most of them didn't know the actual myths involved.

Think I can see where they're coming from, then. I'd probably feel the same way about Greek if i'd had it shoved down my throat.

Then what I want to know is how the Evil Empire knows so much about Greek in the first place and how many points i'd lose for being fluent.

[growling]

Of course you speak Greek fluently.

And that's a good question. Most of them just think of us crazy Earthlings as extinct, apparently. Not sure how long the Tranquility's been MIA, but my guess is 40+ years.

Definitely a language worth learning if you get the chance. [ shut up peter you've probably used it twice in your entire life. ]

And in space, you're supposed to stay the hell away from anything that's been floating around out here for that long. Especially according to every sci-fi movie i've ever seen. And anything after that's just gonna be speculation on our part.

[growling]

Speculation is a way of life around here, better get used to it.

And for the sake of not repeating things, there are some pirate-related footnotes here. Not sure how useful it is outside of maybe planning a vacation to one of the planets. I'd avoid Ceres, personally.

Still pretty useful. Even if we've got no idea how to pilot the ship we're actually on. Makes it hard to plan a vacation when we don't even know where we're going. Might as well just pack everything.

[growling]

And here's where I casually note that while I appreciate your ability to joke about our predicament, I am still deeply concerned with how deeply unconcerned you seem to be by it.

Deeply concerned? How deep are we talking because you never know, I might actually be from space, too. Just another day in the life.

I guess when I say deeply I mostly just mean obnoxiously curious. I don't really get the space impression from you, no offense.

No offense taken. I've just gotten used to the weird and mysterious as of late-- not quite space varieties of weird, but definitely close enough. Had planned on getting the hell away from it all, but here I am. Apparently it likes me as much as I dislike it.

[growling]

Dare I ask what kind of weird and mysterious? Like are we talking Twin Peaks or Buffy.

Think more like X-Files meets the Twilight Zone.

[growling]

Wow. Really? I mean - actually not wow, that sounds like it would be awful to deal with in 3-D. At least my world has some basic ground rules.
