[It's all very well and good to have a garden, but someone's got to upkeep it. And it's only fair, Remus feels, that if you take ingredients from it (for potions and things), that you ought to give back a little. So here he is, kneeling in the dirt a little fussily, trying his best to remember herbology lessons.]
[ josh has been spending more time in the gardens since the last jump - for more reasons than just the wolf thing. breathing, silence, space. he'd caught remus' scent a while ago (still weird) and mostly planned on ignoring it, but he hadn't talked to the kid in a while, and - wolf solidarity, whatever.
he was also part of derek's pack. josh wasn't really sure where he stood on that yet, but it was definitely more in than out at this point. ]
Is this where I tell you to quit digging holes in the backyard?
Oh, I don't know. I think that's only if you catch me burying bones. Do you know anything about plants? I don't know if I'm doing this right-- I mean, it's just burying and watering, isn't it?
I think it's a little more nuanced than that, but yeah, those are the basics. The hydroponics system seems to take care of things pretty well, though.
[ and this is a conversation, apparently, so it'd probably be rude to keep walking (he'd been considering a hi and bye). instead he wanders over to eye the job remus' done so far. ]
What are you trying to plant? Assuming it's of Earthly origins and isn't just space plant number 83.
Knotgrass. I've been experimenting around, trying to see what would be good substitutes in potions-- we haven't got any of the ingredients I need for most of them, but I thought I might as well try and keep myself busy. Knotgrass is rather common anyway, and nobody seems to use it otherwise, but I rather used the whole crop trying to make some Pepper-up potion, which staves off colds.
Absolutely. Er-- if you'd like-- I'm trying to work out something to try and ease my own transformations. Would you be interested in trying whatever I come up with with me?
The line between them is rather thin. I can't actually make herbal medicines without magic; it's just a part of who I am. But I can promise you'll be safe. I won't feed you anything that will hurt you.
[ another pause, because there's something else; he's not sure if it's relevant, but so far remus is the only other wolf who really does the wolf and the magic things, so- ]
Have you ever heard of magic screwing up the curse? Changing it.
[ probably. he makes a slightly dubious face, but then he steps over and gets to work, and... well, yes, let's be honest, this isn't his first time planting things. his mom was pretty into gardening and he was a helpful child, thank you. ]
So. How've you been?
[ if there's an awkward edge to it, that's because it's been a long while since he spoke directly to remus. that whole psychopath network stint a few months ago kind of made an impression. ]

So you do that a lot up here? Potion-making.
[ he'll just not comment on the potion for colds thing, because that sounds an awful lot like homeopathic nonsense to him, frankly. although... ]
Do you ever use wolfsbane?

I might... need some. Some I can inhale.
[ does that count as a potions thing. he's hoping so, because he doesn't really want to run it through medbay. ]

I don't know. But I think it might - I've seen it help other wolves, back where I'm from. They were different, but it's worth trying, right?

It was a long shot anyway. Besides, it's not like there's any guarantee your world is anything like mine. The opposite of a guarantee, actually.
Did you want help? With the knotgrass.
[ only judging the name a little tiny bit. ]

Certainly. Can you plan that seed?
